The Lukács Archive International Foundation firmly protests the politically motivated harrassment of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University in Belgrade. We owe solidarity to the colleagues in Belgrade and to all those who also condemned the closure of the Lukacs Archive. Both were attacks on independent research and free and critical thought which we cannot watch in silence.
UPDATE
On the 4th of June the Serbian government elected the new members of the Institute’s Board; Ivan Vejvoda was appointed Chairman. “Hopefully the future director of the Institute will also be an acceptable choice. After fifteen months of struggle, I can finally, without concern write down the words which have become increasingly rare in Eastern Europe: We have won,” a researcher at the Institute commented.
